Driving Digital Inclusion from the Ground Up: 2,000 Traders and Artisans Trained in Chanchaga

In line with the inclusive vision of His Excellency, the Farmer Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, the Ministry of Communications Technology and Digital Economy has successfully conducted a groundbreaking digital skills training for 2,000 market traders and artisans in Chanchaga Local Government Area.

This initiative, which is the pilot phase of a state-wide digital empowerment program, embodies the Governor’s directive to ensure that no segment of society is left behind in the journey toward a digitally enabled and economically vibrant Niger State.

Empowering Everyday Entrepreneurs, One Smartphone at a Time 📱

The training focused on practical digital skills that participants could immediately apply in their day-to-day business operations. Delivered in Hausa and Pidgin English to ensure inclusivity and ease of understanding, the sessions covered:

  • How to use smartphones effectively for business
  • Basics of digital marketing and social media promotion
  • Safe practices in online banking and financial transactions

These digital tools are more than just conveniences—they are game-changers for local businesses, opening doors to new customers, wider markets, and faster transactions.

“This training isn’t just about learning technology—it’s about economic empowerment, about giving grassroots entrepreneurs the tools to thrive in today’s digital world.”
— Ministry of Communications Technology and Digital Economy

A Focus on Women and Grassroots Development

Significantly, over 65% of those trained were women, underscoring the Ministry’s commitment to gender inclusion and the empowerment of female entrepreneurs. By equipping women with digital skills, we are not only strengthening families but also fueling local economies and fostering self-reliance.

As Niger State forges ahead on the path of digital transformation, initiatives like these ensure that the benefits of technology are shared by all, especially those who have traditionally been excluded from the digital space.

Stay connected as we continue to bring technology closer to the people, one community at a time.
