The Niger State Government has expressed deep concern over the spate of vandalization targeting communication facilities, following a string of grievances raised by telecommunication operators operating within the state.
During a courtesy visit to the state commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Mr. Joashin Okafor, in Minna, the Commissioner for Communications Technology and Digital Economy, Hon. Suleiman Isah, shed light on this pressing issue.
Isah emphasized that the state would adopt a zero-tolerance stance towards any form of vandalism perpetrated against these vital infrastructures. “We are urging for utmost restraint to achieve zero incidents of this menace, ensuring seamless and efficient service delivery,” he asserted.
Highlighting the imperative for collaborative efforts between the state government and NSCDC in safeguarding these facilities, Isah underscored the significance of creating a conducive environment for private sector stakeholders to bolster their investments and contribute to the overall infrastructural development of the state. He also outlined the core mandates of the NSCDC, which encompass the protection of critical national assets among other responsibilities.
Responding to these concerns, Joashin Okafor, the commandant of the Niger State NSCDC, pledged full cooperation with the state government to combat vandalism and curb the activities of perpetrators. “Vandals will find no sanctuary within our borders. The Corps is fully committed to its role in protecting critical national assets and infrastructure, and we will continue to uphold this duty. Rest assured, vandals have no place in Niger State,” he affirmed unequivocally.
With this collaborative effort between the state government and NSCDC, there is a renewed determination to safeguard communication facilities and other critical infrastructures, thereby fostering an environment conducive to sustainable development and economic growth in Niger State.
